Description
|
Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, LLP is a sixty-plus attorney law firm that has represented plaintiffs nationwide since 1972. We have offices in San Francisco, New York, Washington, D.C., Beverly Hills and Nashville.
Lieff Cabraser has a comprehensive and diverse practice that is unique among law firms that represent only plaintiffs. Our cases typically involve dangerous or defective products, securities and investment fraud, consumer fraud and false advertising, employment discrimination and unlawful employment practices, aviation disasters, environmental damage and toxic exposures, antitrust and ERISA violations and the abuse of human and civil rights.
We represent plaintiffs in class and group actions and in individual lawsuits in cases of serious personal injury or death. For example, we have represented thousands of persons nationwide who received defective medical devices or were injured after ingesting prescription drugs with dangerous, undisclosed side effects. Our practice also includes the representation of individuals, private corporations and public institutions in public health and securities matters.
Lieff Cabraser is among the largest law firms in the United States that represents only plaintiffs. Our firm enjoys a national reputation for professional integrity and the efficient and responsible prosecution of our clients' claims.
We possess sophisticated legal skills and the financial resources necessary for the handling of large, complex cases. We take great pride in our innovative approach to the practice of law and our firm's leadership role in cases resulting in landmark decisions and precedent-setting rulings.
In 2003 and 2004, the National Law Journal selected Lieff Cabraser as one of the top 20 plaintiffs' law firms in the nation. In compiling the list, the National Law Journal examined recent verdicts and settlements in addition to overall track records. As noted by U.S. District Court Judge William H. Alsup, our firm is "one of the foremost law firms in the country in both securities law and class actions." |

Project 1
Lieff Cabraser has participated in some of the most important civil trials in the United States over the last ten years. We served as co-counsel in the litigation arising out of the Exxon Valdez oil disaster. The case has been on appeal by Exxon for years. The Court of Appeals is now reviewing an award of $6.75 billion against Exxon for devastating the area ecosystem and local fishing industry. |
Project 2
We represented Massachusetts, the Attorneys General of several states and 18 California cities and counties in the landmark anti-tobacco litigation against Philip Morris, R.J. Reynolds and other cigarette manufacturers. This litigation resulted in a $206 billion settlement in 1998. As part of the settlement, the tobacco industry was required to undertake extensive modifications of its marketing and promotion activities in order to reduce teenage smoking. |
Project 3
We were co-counsel in the trial that led to a judgment of over $1 billion against State Farm, which was the largest judgment ever against a United States insurance company for violating its contract with policyholders and committing consumer fraud. In 2001, the Illinois Court of Appeal affirmed the judgment. The case is now before the Illinois Supreme Court. |
